Foreword
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Aurora’s rebranding from Belles Lettres, conceived in 1935. This spring 2018 edition of Aurora includes the following genres: Fiction, Drama, Creative Nonfiction, Poetry, Music, and Art and Photography.
Each artist whose creativity we’ve highlighted is an EKU undergraduate or graduate student. Our fiction editors enjoyed the use of dialect in a few of the works and the captivating plots. The nonfiction submissions are overflowing with vivid imagery and a large spectrum of emotions. Our poets left us with emotions that lingered long after we finished reading. Aurora’s drama editor appreciated the depressive tone and suspenseful ending after reading the drama submission. Our artists and photographers offered captivating depictions of everyday life, while our musicians contributed mesmerizing melodies in the genres of folk and classical music. While these works are each powerful in their own way, readers please be aware that some of the works may include difficult subject matter.
Thank you to all who’ve submitted their work for publication, the editorial and marketing staff for all their hard work, Dr. Gaby Bedetti for her guidance, and all who’ve supported Aurora. A special thanks to Archie Borders and Todd Keisling who’ve shared with us their time and their wisdom as successful artists. Finally, thank you to EKU and all of our readers without whom we would not be here.
Happy reading,
Marissa Massey, Cayla Robinson, and Jared Rose
